Understanding Functional Medicine
What is Functional Medicine?
Functional Medicine looks at the patterns behind symptoms instead of treating each symptom in isolation. It considers hormones, digestion, metabolism, inflammation, stress, sleep and nutrient status together because these systems often influence each other.

How is Functional Medicine different from conventional medicine?
Conventional medicine is important for diagnosis, medication, specialist care and acute issues. Functional Medicine adds another layer by asking why symptoms are happening, what systems are involved and what can be supported through testing, nutrition, lifestyle and targeted protocols.
Can Functional Medicine help if my labs look normal?
Yes. Standard lab results are useful but they may appear normal despite ongoing symptoms. Functional Medicine analyses individual markers, the relationships between them, runs advanced functional testing if required, considers nutrition and lifestyle factors to uncover potential drivers of fatigue, weight loss resistance, hormonal imbalances, digestive issues and poor sleep.
Is this an alternative to my doctor?
No. Functional Medicine should not replace your doctor, medication or specialist care. It can work alongside your existing care to give you a deeper understanding of underlying reasons and support around symptoms to help you feel well
What kinds of symptoms do you work with?
Fatigue, thyroid symptoms, hair loss, hormonal imbalances, PMS, perimenopause symptoms, digestive issues, bloating, weight gain and poor sleep.
How we handle testing
Do I need testing to work with you?
Not always. Testing depends on your symptoms, history and goals. Sometimes we can start with what you already have. Sometimes advanced functional testing is useful because it gives insights to why certain disease dynamics take place.
What kind of tests do you use?
Standard lab work, sex hormones, full thyroid panel, nutrient status, metabolic markers, gut testing or other advanced functional tests depending on the case.
Learn more
Can I use recent lab results I already have?
Yes. If you already have recent labs in the last 6 months, they can be reviewed first. The goal is not to order more tests for the sake of it. The objective is to understand what information is missing.
What if my doctor said everything is normal?
That does not mean your symptoms are not real. It may mean the testing was limited, the lab's referencese ranges were too broad or the results were not reviewed in relation to your symptoms.
Are tests included in the program?
This depends on the program and on what is clinically relevant. If testing is recommended separately, the cost should be clear before you decide to move forward.
Working with me
Who is this for?
Women who feel like something is off and want a more complete look at their hormones, digestion, thyroid, energy, sleep, metabolism or stress patterns.
What happens during the first consultation?
The first consultation is a free 20-minute call to review your main symptoms and health history, identify your priorities and discuss any recommended blood or advanced functional testing. You’ll leave with clear next steps and a simple roadmap for what to address first.
How long does the process take?
Most people should think in months, not days. The goal is not a quick fix. It is to understand the pattern, build a plan and adjust based on how your body responds.
Will I need supplements?
Not always. Supplements may be used when they have a clear role. They are not the foundation of the work and they do not replace food, sleep, testing or medical care.
Can you work alongside my doctor or specialist?
Yes. This is often the best setup, especially for thyroid conditions, hormone treatment, autoimmune conditions, fertility support or more complex medical histories.
How do I get started?
Book a free roadmap call. From there, I can understand what you are dealing with and recommend the right next step.
Work life and women’s health
I’m performing at a high level, so why do I feel exhausted all the time?
High performance can mask depletion for a long time. You may still be meeting deadlines and showing up for everyone at the office and at home, while your sleep, hormones, blood sugar, thyroid function or nutrient status are under strain. I look at the full picture to understand what may be keeping your body from recovering properly.
How do I know whether it’s burnout, perimenopause, thyroid or something else?
Burnout, perimenopause and thyroid dysfunction can create overlapping symptoms such as fatigue, brain fog, disrupted sleep, anxiety and changes in weight or mood. Your health history, symptoms and lab test results can help us understand which patterns may be involved rather than assuming there is one simple cause.
Can hormonal changes affect my focus, memory and confidence at work?
Yes. Hormonal changes can influence sleep, mood, memory and concentration. Many women describe feeling less sharp or less confident during perimenopause even though their experience and abilities have not changed. Understanding what is happening can help us build the right support around it.
Why am I sleeping but still waking up tired?
Sleep duration and sleep quality are not the same thing. Hormonal changes, blood sugar fluctuations, stress hormones, thyroid function or nutrient deficiencies may affect how restorative your sleep feels. I look beyond the number of hours you sleep to understand what may be interrupting your recovery.
How can I work on my health without adding another full-time job?
Your health plan should fit into your life rather than become another source of pressure. I focus on realistic priorities based on your symptoms, schedule and capacity. The goal is to identify the changes that matter most and build from there.

“High performance can hide depletion for years. Symptoms often appear when the body can no longer keep absorbing the pressure.”
